Degas is 19yo now. He has been retired to the field for 9 years from racing due to an injury. He was such a yard favourite he got to stick around to be a companion for horses in the field. Ones that are being turned out for the first time since injury or ones that don't like being out in their paddock by themselves even if there are other horses either side.

Today he got some of the new horses to chum. One he really didn't like and kept putting his ears back and chasing him away from the gate and fence and just wouldn't let him anywhere near him. I swopped that horse for one of the 3yos who is on holiday now and Degas reverts to being a 3yo again too ??? He instigates the nonsense half of the time!

Degas is the black cobby type one! He has feet the size of dinner plates but he is actually very well bred and was a very, very, very good racehorse once upon a time! Everyone who meets him can't believe he is a TB let alone a good racehorse!

Looks like they are having a whale of a time, he is a stunning looking horse but as you say I wouldn't pick him out to be an ex racehorse.

My 19yr old welsh dX looks like his build….degas doesnt look tb but i can imagine a younger powerful frame on him, which it looks like from the pics, he still thinks he has! ? Bless him, lovely to see oldies hooning about teaching youngsters manners ?

He looks just like an ex racer that was liveried at a local riding school a few years ago. No one would believe he used to race too.
