Age of horse for BD?

I'm wanting to affiliate my youngster this winter but am unsure of the wording of the rule.

It says age is taken from 1st January in the year they were born.

Does this mean that my mare, born in May, would be considered a 4 year old as she turned 4 within this year? Or because she was 3 on January the 1st is she still a 3 year old?

She is classed as a 4 yr old so you will be fine.
She would have been technically 4 from 1st jan, even though her actual birthday isn't until may.
