Age of Trailer

What is the oldest trailer you would buy, knowing it was structurally sound?

I'd probably look at something newer than 5 years, maybe 5-10 at a push but really only around 5. My current trailer is about 14 years old and while it's fine (wood floor replaced with aluminium etc), I wouldn't want one that old if I was going to trade it in / go for something else.

Our rice trailer is altleast 40!!! Replaces floor ect but still going strong! Even has all the old fittings! It's been serviced and very sound! It's even bright blue, we have no trouble finding it at shows :D

If it is old, make a point of taking a torch and possibly something to lie on, depending on where it is being stored and get down on the floor to check the axle/chassis. Look for rust, holes and thinning out of the bars. If it older style and has leaf springs, check them and the U-bolts. Also check the brake drums - have a feel around behind each wheel to check for rust or holes and shine the torch over to the other side so you can actually see them as well - then swap sides.

All said from someone who learned the hard way :(

i guess it depends on each individual trailer.
I am seeing on next weekend that is 10 years old but for it has only actually been used about 10 times! So despite it being old it is in like new condition - been well looked after etc.
Will be getting it for a good price too hopefully so could afford to replace floor with aluminium one if i wanted.

Thank you for this. It is really cheap so things like the floor I'm not too bothered about - happy to replace but the chassis is the BIG thing. I really appreciate your advice :)

My mums coming with me so my dad will have told her what to check for too :) Hopefully, between the two of us, we'll ahve an idea, haha.

Sounds like a fab deal for you. I don't yet know the age of this one. BF forgot to ask for details but the photo of it so far looks good.
