My kiddies see me on this forum all the time, and are both pestering me to join. They are wayyy too young in my opinion, at 10 and 6. Is there a minimum age that you can join, please say yes, and that it's at least 16, so they have some experience before hand. They love everything pony wise, but I dont think they have the knowledge to join the forum (Over my dead body!!)

I don't think there is an age limit, although I could be wrong BUT I certainly wouldn't want my children seeing some of the threads that appear on here, I would think that the forum is 'too old' for them. Perhaps HHO should consider a forum aimed at children, after all they are the future horse owners (and buyers of magazines) or even a children's area on this one if it could be well monitored!

Exactly, my kids would love to be part of it, but as you said, some posts are not for their eyes. It would be fantastic, if there was a kiddy area, so to speak, but with limited access. (Although, my 6 yr old daughter would have my head wrecked-how do you spell this etc..), but she'd love it. Her dad has been around/riding horses since he was tiny(37 now) and she tells him he's doing it wrong. She could be very vocal on here, god love her, but then again, i'd be spelling everything, so might have a bit of control!! hehe!!!

I agree with the above. I certainly think that your children are too young for this forum, although im unsure if there is an actual age restriction- it may be something like 13 as with facebook. I do think there is alot of adult content around so would be wary. I would also be aware that the majority of people on here are alot older and there is no way of knowing who is behind the screen.

I would imagine that there must be forums targeted at younger children, early teen age group which would be safer, and your children would be chatting with other like-minded children of a similar age.... They would be moderated for safety too i would think.

Ten and six?!!!! they hopefully would not be allowed on this forum or any other at that tender age, they should be out getting wet, muddy and dirty, playing outside in the freshair.

The minimum age IMO should be at least 16.

I don't think there should be an age limit (although 6 might be a bit young) for this forum, it's maturity.
I've seen some very nasty threads that have been started by a younger person and they get berated for asking a question that others (older/more experienced) people mock.
Sometimes people who use these forums forget that there are younger people on here.
Maybe H&H isn't the right site for them unless they use the Common Room or Soapbox and I'm sure there are other sites out their aimed at the younger rider/horse lover?

Does pony mag or one of the children aimed mags have boards?
I minagine childrens boards are pre-approved posting system like the bbc website, which is good, where the posts only goes live after the moderator has read it

Soapbox???? The Soapbox is VERY adult in its topics sometimes...I wouldnt recommend it for younger members. The Common Room was set up specifically for more youthful members to be able to have somewhere to discuss topics relevant to them and their peers.

In America, they won't allow anyone under 13 on forums, and the forums i have been active on run/ based mainly in the US have been very strict with bans being enforced until the person's 13th b'day.

At 6 and 10, I'd hope that they were outside playing with their ponies... Interesting stuff you tell them about but this place really isn't suitable for under-13s, and I don't think their are many truly 'active' posters uner 18 apart from in Comp Riders, where there are a few who compete and write interesting reports.

In that case, there is no forum on this site that would be suitable for a 6 year old and from this quote the common room sounds a bit too old for a 12 year old...but again it comes down to maturity.

Maybe it's a sad thing that there is no where on here for a younger horsey person to have a chat or ask a question...or perhaps a good thing, like you said there are other sites for younger horse fans.

I do agree that this site is not designed for children (because at 10 and 6 that is what the OP's daughters are), but that is the nature of the beast and this a virtually unmoderated public forum.

Probably better to look for sites more suited to their age, that are moderated :)

I a nearly 16 and I don't think any of the threads are too 'adult' for me but I would say they would be unsuitable for anyone about 13 or under but I suppose it it up to the parents of the child as to whether they let them on here or not. Could there be a way that TFC could restrict which forums children could access ie so they couldn't access soapbox etc but they could still post and enjoy the forum, but could there be, as someone else said a controlled posting system where posts are approved first before a younger member could post? Just a thought. :)
