Straw for definate - especially when foaling as the shaving can go into the mare and cause an infection !

Ah no, foal is 12 weeks old and is already attempting to eat grass.. would she try and eat the straw?

You have straw for the foaling but once that is over you can return to shavings or stick with the straw.

didnt you have her on straw anyway ??? yes mine eats straw, hay actually what ever she can get her little mouth on !!

i prefere straw as its cheaper ands i needed loads of bedding for my mare and filly.
once its a few weeks old shavings would be safe enough though.
