Anyone have a magic solution to introducing a gelding into a field with a gelding and a mare?
I have a mare and gelding who have been out together on their own for ages. I have brought my other gelding back from livery and ideally I would like to have them all in the same field together. However my mare wants to be friends with the new boy and the old boy don't like it! They've had proper kicking and biting fights in the past.
At the moment the new boy is out in the silage field (cut!) but they will be fertilising again soon so I'll have to move him. They have contact over an electric fence, sometimes they are fine but sometimes the geldings go to bite/kick each other.
I can keep them seperated but new boy isn't happy on his own, he will settle but he tries to keep me in the field when I go to leave & it gets a bit hairy! Unfortunately I can't take on a companion for him at the mo.
Any solutions for equine peace?
