Hi, I posted last week, after they had a double clear, after some stopping the first time. It caused a bit of controversy. On friday night, we went to a show. Joey just didnt want to know. He was fine warning up, jumped no problem, they were allowed to show the ponies the course before hand, totally fine. When it was her turn, I told her to give him a good canter around before jumping, to re-warm him up. So, he ducks out at the first fence, I told her to bring him round and ride him at the fence. I was very happy at her attempt, she really rode him into the jump, but he slapped the brakes on, and she went flying. I'm now thinking he really needs to get his back looked at, but any other suggestions would be appreciated. xx

If the horse doesn't want to jump it could be one of several reasons;

1. Rider
2. Feet
3. Pain
4. Age
5. Doesn't like jumping.

What is this pony's history? I note from another post that you think he may be older than 17 - has the dentist or vet been able to give you any better ideas?

Ditto amymay. What's he like to jump at home? And has he jumped with anyone else recently, eg an experienced older child or small adult?

If she's anticipating a stop then he will stop - did you video it? I often videod my daughter when she used to think he might stop, and although she's kick kick kicking you can see at one point on the approach there is an ever so teeny hesitancy pause - enough for the pony to doubt. Would suggest pop a different rider on if you can, and see what happens. Also can you take him schooling anywhere over a course, see how they get on when not under pressure.

We have established he is 17. Equine Dentist said not a day over it. He jumps fine at home or in her lesson. I will stick my friends daughter on him and see how it goes, she's small enough to ride him, but is a great little rider. failing that, I'll get his back looked at. fingers crossed.
