Can't do it on the right rein! After a lot of practice can do it at any point on a 20m circle, and even right canter coming up the centre line, but not at A! As soon as I sit he sort of twists and does left canter. I'm doing Prelim 10 on Tues and I'm thinking if I leave the transition until the corner will I just get "Late transistion" or would the judge pull me up? Otherwise he will strike off left, I won't be able to correct him in time and at least two movements will be mucked up.

I have thought about this one - as I think it makes P10 hard. My plan that I use is to actually ride that end of the arena as part of a 20 m circle - not on the track as per the test. When you get to A give your usual canter aids. If your horse will canter correctly anywhere on a 20m circle you will get your canter at A. Hope this makes sense!

Thanks for suggestions. Will try riding as a 20m circle. Extra flexion doesn't work somehow. I think I am managing to bend his neck and not his body, but maybe if I think circle it will be OK. Reassuring to know if I go for the corner option I will only get "late to canter". Thanks.

If your outside contact and leg aids arn't working, try wrong bend two strides before asking for canter at A. It worked for me many moons ago.

I have just managed to crack this - out hacking I have been asking for canter on one leg, pulling up then straight away asking for canter on the other - the best way seems to be for me to turn my head to the opposite side and flex him slightly to the side I want to strike off on. This won't help you by Tuesday but it is worth having an experiment in the longer term - on Tuesday you will just lose a few marks.

Have fun
