just wondering if anyone had any experience of one eyed dogs doing agility. I was considering taking holly in the autumn. Obviously she wouldn't be competitive and I don't know would she enjoy it but would be interested to hear others experiences.

i think there might have been one in the rescue section. just wondering about turning etc but it would be for fun anyway

I think it was the rescue section, I think giving them direction on their blind side would be difficult with hand/arm signals. I dont see why you couldnt train them by voice and teach them left and right.

There are several on the circuit and probably more who don't compete, it takes a little bit of thinking to ensure good communication (ie handler positioning) but no reason not to give it a go!!

Friend's Leonberger (yes that's right) lost her eye at Christmas and is competing again! She's not a speed demon but she's accurate and follows her handler just the same as she did before when she had two!

thats great to know :-) i dont know how good she would be but i've always wanted to try it. theres a club fairly close and a girl i used to ride with goes so i might message her and ask her more about it.

I have a one eyed dog who does Agility and flyball.
RE Agility I am having to teach her to work away from me and she is now learning to associate certain words with the equipment. The weaves have been my biggets problem as it is her left eye which is missing, so she finds it hard to judge the entrance.
Re Flyball-- As it is her left eye missing and she used to turn left she initially had problems and would run out of the lane but she taught herself to turn right and is now very reliable. I have to make sure that she has a clear view down the lane just before she races, but otherwise we have no problems.

see shes not the most intelligent or the quickest learner so will have to just give it a go when i can get the chance. you can tell im supposed to be revising not planning holly's life for the next 6 months...
