Does anyone have to avoid schooling when there mare is in season? I've had my mare 9 months and she's quite sensative, took a while to settle in. Very sensative to heat, flies, etc, and dominant in the feild but can get stressed and anxious although this is not very often now.
Anyway, we've been having lessons and although she has an opinion and can sometimes nap (protest by turning towards the gate or drifting through her shoulder) and get a bit stroppy in general, generally she was starting to soften in the school and going quite nicely. This last week however she's extra extra irritated, constantly arguing, won't accept my leg and very objective to bending right. She's having her back checked Tuesday so it may well be pain. But I'm also wondering if it's season related, I'll need to track it to know for sure as it's not as obvious with her (my other mare will squirt a lot). And if if it isn't back (or teeth I will check soon although they are up to date) im wondering if its best I stick to hacking or lunging while she's in season, do other people having to do this? She's on oestress by the way. I'm aware it may also be spring grass related although her paddock still looks quite bare.
