Im almost 99% sure somthing must be wrong somwhere with Star - it's getting worrying now....lunged her last night and when asked to trot she literally lunged at me with teeth and legs, i had to use the whip to to 'shoo' her of...I mean she usually has a buck and a play on the lunged but this was just pure agression...Along with this she is also agressive when changing rugs at the moment...

Sooo has anyone else experienced this with there horse? Im wondering whether when i had the back women out (not my normal) and she gave her a 15min strech saying she had extremely sore shoulders/neck (from which i gather she did when she tripped over on the lunge a week or so before) and then said she would be fine...wellllllllll i'm now wondering whether she did her job correct? My usual back person can be with Star for upto an hour doing certain things and this women just came in clicked her neck and used a laser thing on her shoulders...to me that wasnt the norm???? Ideas please....

My back lady is coming tomorrow so will be interesting to hear what she says...

is it possible that shes come into season or got a skin problem ? I have got a tb mare who is getting grumpy in the stable, dosen't seem to be a reason for it so I'm putting it down to the time of year, not enough turnout etc - also dosen't help thats shes overweight so is on a restricted diet. just having to hope that when spring comes and she can go out to the field again that she will go back to the lovely natured mare she was !!
good luck with yours, worth investigating a medical problem but sometimes I think we just don't know !

There is no evidence of a skin problem as recently been clipped again and doesnt appear to be in season either. She is turned out daily for around 8-9hrs with hay and grass etc....

I have been trying to tell myself its the time of year and hormones etc but she's not even right when ridden. 2wks ago now i put it down to being fresh but after working every day since and no improvement i suspecting a problem!!! Very tense and agrrivated under saddle, wont relax as normal etc...

sounds to me like she is trying to tell you something..
when you say 'back person' what type are they, physio, osteo, McTimmony.?
have you had the vet to see her.?

Get a qualified saddle fitter out to check your tack. Ive seen this reaction before in a horse who had recently had an ill fitting saddle replaced by one that was the correct fit (sounds perverse but it was suddenly using the correct muscles and it really hurt!).

It may be that this is temp thing due to the 'back person' or it may be that your tack is the problem.

Have you been reading any of my posts about Axey? He has literally turned into an evil horrible horse that bites and kicks, and is so grumpy it's untrue.
Had the vet out and he has a muscle spasm in his back causing him permaent low grade pain. No wonder he's grumpy and won't let anyone touch him.

So yes, definately!

There is a saddle fitter on my yard so will get her to have a quick look but im 100% sure it's all fine - there has been no recent changes in tack and when ive looked it fits well. Bridle wise, its just a simple cavesson with KK snaffle...

Frankie is an Oesteopath and ive had her for years now...she knows Star quite well so she'll be able to notice if there is any change also. I do have the vet coming the week after for jabs so have booked in him just to give her a through go over and check teeth/legs etc...

Definately sounds like pain, end of last year my horse was getting grumpier and grumpier, with rugs, when i went to put his saddle on, going backwards into the corner of his stable and doing mini buck/kicks messing around on lunge...BUT...not lame when ridden, although did get really nappy and put a few bucks in, which i put down to naughty youngster at the time!

I decided to have the vet out, he took some bloods which showed mucsle damaged, recommended Physio, who was simply amazing, he had damaged his sacro illiac muscle! After just 1 week after physio and rest he was happier, a couple more physio sessions and 4 further weeks rest, his moods just got better and better again. Really strange as he wasn't really lame if that makes sense. Since being back in work, he is happier, stopped nappying and bucking (well apart from the odd one or two!)!!

Good luck with it all
