Agria Insurance

What annual limit did you go for? They have £3,000, £6,000 or £10,000 and can't decide which is best.
i went with £6k. I worked out that the vet bill for the year would be around £9k to get the full £6k when you include the excess and the 25% contribution. I also went for the highest excess to keep the premium low and put some away in a bank account for vets bills.

We have multiple horses with Agria and others we choose to 'self insure'. If using Agria, it is best to insure a horse before they have too many exclusions. Agria have always been excellent to deal with and we can get issues checked early but not feel pressured to jump to the most drastic treatment because exclusions will be applied at the next renewal.
Its good to hear that they are excellent to deal with.

I’m with NFU who have been fantastic in the past but tried to get a quote for a new pony yesterday and it was painful. Pony isn’t cheap but also isn’t a competition pony so just above £10k and they require a full set of X-rays (38). That isn’t even for loss of use.

I looked at Agria as an alternative and seem to have more flexibility/options and more competitive pricing. I think I will be switching.

I was NFU previously too! They were super paying out for my mare but I was paying £150 a month.. I dread to know the price for a newbie 🙈

I’ve gone with Agria 10k, it’s £60 a month and I thought the other £60 I can put in a savings account

I switched to Agria in July from animal friends when my premium went up to £150 pm. I’m paying just under £50 pm for a better cover, other than I obviously have to pay 25%.
I’ve had to put in a claim after about 3 weeks due to a slipping accident on the road making him lame and ended up having scans and X-rays and they’ve paid up with no quibbles at all.

I just had my renewal from Animal Friends. It's gone up from £960 per year to....and I can't believe I'm typing this....£1921 per year. They have streamlined what they offer and moved me from £5000 to £7000 per condition but still!! I have some serious thinking to do about whether I continue, given the exclusions in placeo_Oo_Oo_O

Wowza.. I’d be considering cancelling and putting money aside.

NFU just quoted me £5,106 for a new policy on a new horse because of my previous claims on my last horse 🙈

Just to edit this. I bought a policy with Agria, but after shopping around and finding lots of good reviews on insurance emporium. I decided to cancel Agria and took a policy out with them.

£66 a month with £5k per condition vet fees, public liability, accident. £295 excess. I know it’s not lifetime but right now I can’t afford the £420 excess and 25% copayment with Agria if I did need to claim.

Same here. Mine went up from £70pm to £140pm, hence the change to Agria, which is about £50pm with higher vets fees.

Wow & I thought the roughly 2k per year (with £400 excess) they wanted from me with my approx 15k recent claim history was steep! (I’m now with Agria for a considerably smaller premium but still with high excess & copayment…)

I walked from animal Friends to agria after a similar increase here

I read the small print in the renewal - referral consultations are capped at £200. My vets are a mobile practice and don't have a hospital facility - they refer for anything more than basic xrays etc. I queried this with AF, and it's true. So MRI scan, bone scan etc would all be capped at £200. Which is ludicrous, and makes my decision for me:mad:

No, it’s just the consultation that’s capped. The MRI scan is covered but the consult itself with the specialist is limited to £200.

You were told wrong unfortunately! Unless there’s a big glitch in your policy compared to the usual...!
Wow, they may have a big training issue to address there then. Particularly as the guy went to double check! I have taken out an Agria policy which will kick in on renewal in a couple of weeks. I'd already pretty much decided to leave them because of the price hike, but the £200 cap cinched it.

I just read it again. Printed sheet called "Important information on Horse Vet Fee Claim Limits". Not tailored to my personal policy in any way.
"Referral Consultation.
If your vet refers you to a specialist for treatment or a second opinion, or if you go directly to a referral practice, the maximum we'll pay is £200."

How recent is your info rara007? Because I know they DID pay out for referrals and they just paid me £900+ for just that - but they have changed the whole structure of their horse insurance now and the above relates to my renewal at the new terms.
