Hi everyone
my cob mare has developed this habit of trying to turn in the middle of the school when I am going down the long side of the school. I try to use my inside leg to push her back to the track but always end up pulling the outside rein to get her back- I know all that does is move her head outwards.
Could anyone tell me the correct aids for this problem?
shes pretty strong when she does this - never to run off or anything, she just wants to run into the middle for some reason.
thanks for reading :)

Is she napping back to the gate? If she is, I'd concentrate on keeping her moving forward and straight down the long side by using plenty of leg and keeping my hands slightly wider than usual, if you can control the shoulders, she won't be able to turn. That's the theory anyway!

Try this little exercise.

In the corner ride a small circle, say 8m, maintain the feeling of the bend as you come out of the circle and push her shoulders across to the track and go large with that shoulder fore feeling. If you lose the feeling riding another small circle, re establish the bend and go large again. Remember to work both reins equally.

Mine does that sometimes, and it is when I'm not sitting straight. Make a point of looking to the centre of the school when she veers in(sounds wrong I know) and that might straighten your shoulders and therefore hips
