I am going to buy an hit airvest shortly and wondered what people who use them when hacking out wear on themselves for hight viz. At the moment I wear a PLEASE PASS WIDE AND SLOW tabard but I dont think I will be able to wear this over the airvest as should I come adrift the airvest expands outwards and would therefore be restricted by the tabard. Just wondering what others do. I know they sell flourescent airvests but as I sometimes do a bit of dressage I am getting a black one so that it wont be too obvious.

I have the florescent hit air as I mainly hack but I also wear a hi viz coat/jacket/top underneath it. My friend does this but her air jacket is black, obviously hides a lot of the hi viz but if you have sleeves on the hi viz it helps

I have a hitair that has been set off once!! I had my high visibility tabbard on loosely over the top of vest. I have a high viz with velcro sides. It didn't affect the air vest at all x

I asked the Hit Air peeps about this. Their representative said that it is ok to wear a tabard on the outside of the vest, as long as it has elasticated or quick release side fastenings. She also said that (unsurprisingly) the hiz viz vests get rather grubby.

In practice, I wear my usual hi viz under my black hit air vest and it is still very visible, especially if I have long sleeves.

If the tabard is the kind that has elasticated sides then you should be absolutely fine as the elastic can stretch to accommodate the air jacket. If it's not then you should be able to find one online (something like this http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Hi-Vis-Re...hash=item4aebe37ee2:m:m45T3JSY3zkNUvDbbdLPQwQ) I wear my elasticated number bib over the top of mine when competing and it's never stopped it working properly! Alternatively you could just buy a very large size/mens tabard which would allow it to inflate underneath...

I wear a hiviz vest under my hit air as a good proportion of it can still be seen. I also wear a hiviz band around my hat.

Daughter wears a range of hi viz clothes under her Hit Air: t-shirts in summer, hoodie or jacket in the winter. All are still very visible.

It's the neck I worry about not the sides. Don't fancy being garrotted by it. I also wear a giant one on top (looks hideous) or a long sleeve hi vis coat underneath. In the summer I wore yellow short sleeve polos under it and plenty of that was visible. Not sure about this year as my new horse is dark bay where as previous one was very visible.

Thanks everyone. I like my tabard because of the wording on it so will definitely want one to fit over the hitair. My current one has velcro fastening at the front so will have to look for an elasticated version.

if it is a bit baggy the velcro will release when the airjacket goes off so shouldn't be a problem, otherwise as you say something with elastic will do the job. Mine goes off an awful lot with a number bib over the top and both have been fine afterwards!
