Hi

This is probably a daft question but what do you about wearing hi viz when you also wear an air jacket like the Point 2 or Hit-Air?

Reason I ask is that I'm thinking of getting an air jacket (probably a hit air) but want a plain one so I can use it in the school, at competitions etc. I also want to wear it out hacking and I don't hack out without hi viz on me (normaly a tabard). Just wondered whether wearing a tabard over the top would affect how it went off if I were to come off? What do other people do?

Thanks!

The tabard won't affect how it goes off but might rip upon explosion. Tbh a tabard is about £10, a small price to pay to be safe really. You could always buy a really big one so you have inflation room under it.

Put your tabard over the top- my P2 has gone off with the tabard over it and there was no issue. Air jacket inflated as it should and tabard just got tighter over it :)

Same as people wear their P2 under their number bib eventing and WFP even wears his p2 under his xc jersey.

I have got a fleece hi viz and reflective jacket which is XL (I take a med) so my point two goes on underneath and can inflate perfectly safely under the hi viz no problems. My partner bought it at machine mart for a fiver i think

As long as you allow for 4 inches all around you to inflate you will be ok

If just wanting to wear a tabard why not put elastic on it so its springy if you get my drift

I don't have an air jacket but I'm guessing that if your air jacket went off the velcro in the hi-viz waistcoat would come undone. At least I have a polite waistcoat which zips up the front and has a lot of room to velcro looser and tighter at the back. Or what if you wore the hi-viz waistcoat loose enough to allow the air jacket to expand if necessary? How loose does it need to be? Would it flap around and spook your horse or would it be ok?
The other possibility would be to have one of those winter jackets with the long sleeves and collar so then you would have hi-viz on your shoulders, arms, bum?(if the air jacket doesn't cover your tail bone) and collar and then put the air jacket on on top. Would that work?
Sorry, don't really know but I'm just throwing some ideas around.

I wear a Point 2 air jacket and a Polite Hi-Vis tabard. When I got thrown recently, the air jacket went off no problem. Didn't rip or damage the tabard at all.

Brilliant! Thanks guys - knew it was probably a daft question! My tabard is mesh and fairly stretchy so I think I'll be ok....guess what is now top of my Christmas list!!
