In the last week there have been some cases of Alabama rot contracted by dogs walking in our village woods. Many people with dogs are now avoiding the woods but does anyone know if Alabama rot presents any risk to horses? I ride there every day and my horse gets very muddy as the woods are currently trashed so I am wondering if horses are susceptible to it too.

Not that I have ever heard of. It is present in the New Forest and the ponies don't seem susceptible.
Where abouts are you?

It is a horrible thing. Thank fully I have never heard of it near here but we don't take the dogs in woods anywhere else now, such a shame. (Well, North norfolk, whichi s the only other place we take them).
On a gundog forum it said if you dip their feet in hibiscrub or similar after a walk they should be OK.
