I remember reading about this some while ago and seeing a map of where there had been cases which seemed to be mainly in the South, however, I read about a case today which prompted me to check it out again. There's a useful map which shows were there have been cases and I was shocked to see how much it had spread. As it's usually fatal unless treated very quickly, you may want to google it and get some info. I've started to wash off any mud on Stanley after a walk as we've had a case very local to me and check for lesions, just as a precaution.

I was just about to post about this - there appears to be an outbreak very locally to me, with a Vizla in my town (Newent, Gloucestershire) being a suspected case :( :(

I am trying to decide what on earth to do with my four - all thin skinned lurchers and greyhounds, 3 of them elderly - washing them off and being vigilant seems so inadequate :(

My mum's dog had that. She was about the 20th case in England a few years ago and I think she was the first to survive it. It's horrific. There are cases within a few miles of me now. Thankfully it is still exceedingly rare so all people can do is be aware and get veterinary treatment immediately if you see lesions.

On the news today, it was South Today they were talking to a vet who thinks that the bacteria is the same one that causes problems for fish Aeromonas hydrophila and that there is a vaccine for fish. i think she is wanting information from anyone who has had the disease.

Here is a link to info for anyone interested.

Jspeince that is very interesting.
I really hope they find a prevention injection. We have been lucky until dec this year no cases nearby now within a 15mile radius we have about 8 cases.
It petrifies me as like above said washing off and being vigilant seems so little that can be done when it’s such a deadly disease. Although I do realise it is still very rare even though it’s spread given the large number of dogs in the country and number of cases it still doesn’t make me feel any better!

There was another one posted on facebook today in the north had been walking through muddy woods. Has been reported to add to the database.
