I was really shocked to read that Alan Walker of Hook Norton Vets has been struck off by the RCVS for entering incorrect dates on a vaccination record. The horses in question were never at any risk. I've always thought that the Jockey Club rules on vaccination should give some lee-way, as horses' immunity is not compromised if the vaccination is a bit later than exactly 365 days. Alan has been a brilliant vet for so many years - I think that the RCVS has been overly harsh and unfair.

Sounds like some spiteful person has reported him (ex employee?). Most race course vets are prepared to bend the rules and help owners. I have known some help with insurance claims etc, and everyone keeps hush and favours are passed around.

Poor chap, it is unfortunate that he has been struck off - does not make him a bad vet, just bad judge of people who he has helped or have knowledge of how he is prepared to help others.

I am sure to this than meets the eye, there must be other stuff going on and this is the route they have chosen to kick the poor bloke out. Hope the originator gets some crap back at them at some stage. What a waste!

Must comment that my vet will not change dates even by a day!

Probably true, and my vets won't (rightly) either. But he had a lot of people on his side who seemed genuinely upset as he'd served them well. Pretty sure he wouldn't be up to his ears in dodgy vacc certs. Agree you have to draw the line. Wonder if complainants had an axe to grind or pulled some strings........

Ridiculous but unfortunately he got caught! I did notice however his age. 65. Retirement. Look at doctors, they get struck off at 65 too. Personally I think a warning should have been enough. Would it stop anyone using him as a Vet- NO!!
