Well I just got home from picking Alee up from the vets.
I got the call from the vet at about 3pm today and was shaking when I answered the phone.

So in brief Alee has counter rotated pedal bones in both hind legs. It is hoped that with some remedial shoeing she will come sound and return to normal ridden work.

She is now having 4 weeks field rest whilst we sort out her remedial shoes and re
xray after being shod with them next week.

I am very lucky that I have a very good farrier that was actually with me when the vet called. They spoke and both are really hopeful of a good outcome.

If anyone has any experience of the above any advice would be much appreciated.

Thank you everyone for all your support and vibes over the last few day.

I'm off to the New Forest tomorrow for a well earned short break

I have no idea what this is or any advice but at least you have some answers now and can work on a solution to her pain. Good luck with her recovery and enjoy your rest.

They have suggested DP or is it DG shoes not sure soemthing like that though!!!

Is counter rotation the opposite of rotation..... ie they go up rather than down towards the sole??????

What would cause this??? I have never heard of it, it sounds very unusual

Its basically a very flat footed horse but worse. Imagine walking with a wedge under your toe, all the pressure will be put on the backs of your leg (hamstrings etc) and your lower back. This in short is whats happening to Alee. (I think!!!

I'm not sure what has caused it. Confo fault I guess - thats just the way she was made poor love!!!

ah.. you see thought they would of used wedge shoes or wedges and bar shoes in order to lift the foot angle. or wedges with lateral extensions...

not heard of DP or DG shoes just having a look now.

let me know when you find out. i am very interested.

i think it is EDS pads. these pads can have a wedge or be flat, these are what Andy had fitted when he was first diagnosed. Equine Digital Support pads, when they have a wedge, as well as supporting the whole foot, sole, frog etc they also lift the heel which will correct the angle of the pedal bones as in Andy and Alee's case..

yes, i'd like a look at the pics.

Can't find anything on DG OR DP shoes.. to be honest they must be something to increase the heels.. so probably are a wedge pad of some sort. let me know
