My horse has now decided he doesn't really like Alfa A, he picks out and leaves all the long stalky bits!
Can anyone recommend an alternative to keep his weight etc with no fizz thanks

If you want to still use alfalfa try the pellets, they can be soaked if he prefers something mushy to eat, one of mine was not keen on any form of chop but loved the pellets when he had them, remember you will need far less though as they will weigh far more than chop.

More information will enable folks to advise you . . . how big is your horse, what type/breed is he, what level of work is he in, does he have any medical/metabolic issues, what else do you feed him (including forage, other hard feed and grazing, etc.)?

I can't feed my sweet itch prone sheltie x alfalfa and I found it very difficult to find any chaff that doesn't contain alfalfa or added sugar (can't believe there isn't a market for sugar-free grass chaff). In the end I tracked down a pure grass chaff with linseed and mint from Thunderbrook Equestrian. I've got the sheltie and my daughters 13.2hh coloured on it and they both look amazing, and both scoff it down.
