I usually feed dengie 'hi-fi lite', but as there was none in stock last week bought a sack of 'alph a lite' instead. Although I have been feeding it for only a week, my horse is a lot sharper and suffering brake failure which is quite out of character. If the weather was better I would put it down to spring fever...!
None of this behaviour concerns me as he is still fundamentally sensible, but would be interested to know if anyone else has found their horses react to 'alafa a lite'?
Thanks

Yes, you are feeding neat Alfalfa now as Hi-Fi lite has oat straw mixed in with it and, consequently, is not so "powerful". Why not mix an ordinary chaff with the Alfa Lite?

Thanks Doris - I wonder why it is marketed as low energy/low sugar etc, or is that just in direct comparison to the normal version?
I have some mollichop which I will 'dilute' it with!

Depends what your horse reacts to.
It is lower in energy and sugar than normal Alfa A ( has molasses extract rather than molasses) but as doris said it is all alfalfa rather than alfalfa with straw added so higher in protein.

Mine is fine with alfalfa but reacts to sugar so I would have more problems with the mollichaff but each horse is different.

You are now feeding 13% protien with 9mj digestible energy compared to 10% protein and 8mj DE. Alfa A lite is designed for working horses or ponies needing less sugar in the diet, it is straight alfalfa, whereas hifi lite is oat straw with alfalfa blended in and is for light work/maintenace those prone to lammi and as a hay replacer. You could dilute the alfa lite with an oat straw chop. Or alternativly step up the work load!!

I have several on it, from horse hunting x2/week, to pc pony, to veteran race horse. It doesn't make any of mine fizzy and they have bucket loads of it, with pony nuts / build up nuts or whatever they need. Personally I like it.

alfa a lite suits my youngster but it sends my other lad absolutely barmy, he has to have good doer instead! whan he was on alfa a lite he was bolting round the field like a mad possessed lunatic!
