Now I'm sure I've read on here before people saying that Alfa A oil has been sending their horse a bit loopy?! Did I dream it? Anyway, when I read it I remember thinking (as I'd just started giving it to mine) it won't do that to her, if it does she could do with it! Now I regret that completly, as shes a bit of a fruit cake at the moment!!! So, could it be this? Oil is supposed to be slow release energy not rocket fuel!!

I think it affects horses differently, my TB is a loony tune on it (but then she is a loony on Pasture mix too) but my Welsh x TB is fine on it but then she is a lazy one most of the time.

As with everything it is horse dependant. I find that if I put my mare on Alfa A oil she needs to be in 45mins schooling work every single day otherwise it does just go straight to her head. Even with a day off she snorts and goes sideways like a loon!
However she is now on Molichop Herbie and I can leave her a week, hop back on and she is just the same.

Apparently some horses are intolerant of alfalfa. i fed mine it for a long time and was always a bit spooky and fresh. i changed to winergy senior as it is low starch and no alfalfa, and she changed very quickly. stopped spooking and was far calmer almost immediately.

Thanks for your replies, its all very interesting! Shes in 'medium' work 6 days a week, but spooky and fresh is exactly how I would describe her! I will change back to molli original and see how we go....

I feed it to my TB year round & he's fine on it. He's very laid back & feed doesn't seem to alter that but two of my friends have just started feeding it to their horses & they're both a bit loopy off it (not mental, just very fresh). Both their horses are irish TB types in full work, one competes weekly.

I s'pose it really does depend on the horse.

Alfa-a in any form sends mine through the roof. Alfalfa chaff from countryside is apparently fine.

Dunno why this is, but yes, it can send some nuts.

Just thought I would post that I tried Drifter on Alfa-A for a couple of weeks and he went completely bonkers and changed from my little 17hh pony to Snorting bouncy monster.

Took him off it and after 4 days he went back to cuddly pussycat.
