Alfa Hifi . . . smells of fish ??? !!!

I've just opened a bag of Alfa Hifi and it smells of fish

I don't usually feed this stuff so is this normal or should I be taking it back to the shop ??
It's well in date by the way.
 
Funny you should say that as when I was mixing the feeds today, I was getting a smell that reminded me of the sea!!!! I think it's the alfalfa in it and the hot weather making it smell stronger. My bag is fine and have been using it for a couple of weeks. So long as it looks fine and doesn't smell musty, I would say it's ok.
 
What colour bag is that? I usually buy alfa a (yellow) and hi fi lite (blue) but I accidentally asked for alfa lite and got an orange coloured bag. It stinks! Not sure I would describe it as fishy, but it is certainly pungent.

I have been feeding it for a month and all mine are still alive and kicking

I have just emptied a bag of hi-fi lite into the woods behind my fields today! It smelt a bit like hayledge, in a fermenting sort of way. It looked fine and didn't seem mouldy, but it definately didn't smell like it normally does. Hopefully the deer that live in the woods will enjoy it!
 
I vaguely remember a post about a fire in a warehouse which stored a lot of Dengie products. Apparently the bags didn't appear damaged but the stuff inside had a strange smell to it due to the smoke and fumes.
