Had a half day today so went to the yard at about 2, I had turned Ali out in one of the smaller paddocks, and when I arrived I knew something wasn't right... He usually comes over to me straight away when I call him, but today he walked very slowly over and he looked to be dragging his off hind leg from a distance. I went straight up to him, and there was obvious swelling just above his hock, and there was a good bit of heat, and he was in obvious pain when I touched that area (he tried to hop away from me on 3 legs). I cold hosed his leg for a while, and called out the vet straight away. He has a bit of a sprain, nothing serious fortunately, and if everything goes well he should be fine within 5 days, or 2 weeks if everything doesn't go so well... He's on box rest for the next few days and I have to give him two sachets of bute each evening for the next 5 days and we'll see how things go... I have absolutely no idea how he managed to injure himself, his paddock is well fenced with post and rail and there was nothing in his field he could injure himself on, apart from the tub trug I fed him in the morning with and his water trough. My vets bill this month is rather large...
