Hello im new to the site but just wondered if im totally crazy as my friends and family think, or are there fellow people like me.

Im a single mum, own a thoroughbred mare, a dartmore shetland cross, have two kiddies, work nights and am very poor.

I go without holidays, new clothes, never go out, but my equines live like kings, they are pampered have all the best treatments needed, veterinary care etc, whilst myself and my children go without most things.

However, we spend all of our spare time down at the farm and i just live for them.

Are you the same?

Thanks for reading

I am similar, I would rather spend money on my horse than myself. I do not go on holiday because I miss my horse (and cats) too much.

I'm the same, I don't earn allot. Ihave have a car whiich costs around £200 a month but other than that every penny goes on my guys, I go out every 2 or 3 months or so n I'm always broke 2 weeks after pay day. The things we do hey?!

Hello, and welcome to HHO ! Your poll doesn't make sense to me, i'd definitely prefer horses over holidays, I think. I'm not sure if i could let my daughter "go without" if it was a choice between her or the horse though. I suppose it really depends on what you mean by "going without". If its going without designer labels and every electronic gadget under the sun, then yes, every time ! If it means going without a new pair of school shoes when your old ones have holes in the toes, and never having anything but bread and cheese for supper, just so mum can afford her horses, then i think its not fair on the kids.

That's just me, though, and i am sure it works well for you.

i'd rather buy things for my horse than myself, however my kids never go without because of my horse.

yep same boat, cut out pretty much every luxury when I bought Tia - DEF worth it though

haven't had a haircut in..god..about 3 months eekk. Before I bought said horse I often had my hair nails done clothes shopping..can't remember the last time I went clothes shopping

I did buy my first work coat in 2 years though hurray!

I'm saving up now but I'm 99% sure all of it will go on schooling and lessons lol I can't wait

is all good

Also I don't understand the girls in work that spend £80+ on a pair of hair straighteners and the rest on designer clothes, animals are so much more rewarding for me

I must be mad.

Snap- would prefer to spend money on the horses than myself, but kids and household bills come first - I would never spend £150 on a pair of 'going out' shoes but quite happily (unless OH finds out. LOL) spend on new riding boots!!!

Def animals over £80 hair straighteners!

I do not have children, so my horse and other animals can always come first.

Not sure if my love for horses is a obssession, passion or disease.

hmm not sure about your poll/questions but...

Yes

horses shoes come before my killer heals
horses rugs come before my new booty
horses dentist comes before my scrap and polish
my horse scores a lot higher in the fashion stakes than me and I've got a bigger collection of hoof polish than nail polish lol!

I'm not painting a very good picture of myself am I!

prefer horses to holidays, i find them so much more rewarding and if i did get away id more than likely miss them, unless they could come with me!! All my money goes on rent, bills, food and the horses and thats it, nothing left. I dont have new clothes, i dont get my hair cut very often, i am completely skint and i would certainly say my son does not go without, he has good food, clothes that fit (no holes either!! lol and plenty of toys. he also enjoys the horses, though i have to say there has been times where i have been late with replacing my sons shoes due to having to pay livery fees etc:-(
god i dont sound very good do i!!

You are not alone! I posed this same question about a week ago! single mum 2 kids struggling to keep a horse, but when I am at the yard I forget all my troubles and it's the one place I really enjoy myself.

i have gone through the going out to clubs and getting new clothes every week and having my hair done regularly, that was in my younger years, I suppose I just grew out of all that and get so much pleasure from my horse that I don't feel that I go without that much, as I don't want those things in the first place.

Kids do come first at the end of the day they have to and I would have to sell the horse if I couldn't manage, although not sure what kids are going for these days, shall I do a "how much" Post??

sorry guys my poll doesnt make sense, that is because im computer illiterate,

when i said my children go without i didnt mean school trips, clothes, food, shoes etc. i mean nintendos, playstations, fancy labelled clothes,

they love being with the horses they live and breath them as i do, i so much prefer them to be out in the fresh air getting lots of exercise than sitting at home on the playstation that i cant afford anyway.

and you are right it is a disease, although i am glad i caught this disease

I would never put my horse's before my children, that is just plain wrong. If my two boys were missing out im afraid the horse's would go.

Asdide from that, i too go without alot of stuff, how did we all survive without Primark
