Alfie knows what its all about !!
The winning trio of Sara Cheyne, Gillian Macrae and Alfie at Mundole
YOUNG riders from the strath put in some sparkling performances at the Mundole Summer Show at the weekend to take home winners' rosettes.
Two Cromdale girls dominated the ridden classes on Saturday, which was judged by Susan Ravenshear from Huntly.
Phoebe Rainy-Brown (13) took the ridden championship for the show on her young coloured pony, Bentleys Dream Catcher.
The mount had just had a week off after competing at The Royal Highland Show in the non-native Horse Of The Year Show qualifier, where he took fourth place making the pair the top exhibit from Scotland.
Reserve in the ridden championship at Mundole was Beth Simpson on Highland Quincey.
Meanwhile, Elspeth Rainy Brown and Gillian Macrae, whom both teach at Newtonmore Riding Centre's Saddle and Pony Club, took the first of what is intended to be many young riders to competition.
Seven-year-old Sara Cheyne, from Newtonmore, competed in her first lead rein class on Pitlands Native Charmer, known as Alfie, who is now 17-years-old and belongs to the Rainy Brown family.
With many championships and wins under his belt, Alfie has given all three of the Rainy Brown children a good start to their horse riding careers.
Led by Macrae, who is more used to showing Highland Ponies in-hand for the Ormiston family, this was a debut for all three, rider, leader and pony and they took first place in the lead rein class with a very smooth show.
The trio also took the mini championship.
Ruaridh Ormiston, who runs the Newtonmore club, said he and the centre's instructors were very keen to give local children under their instruction as many opportunities as possible in competition.
He said: "Hopefully we will see a lot more of these youngsters out competing on centre ponies or Rainy Brown ponies." Mundole Summer Show got off to a busy start on Saturday with working hunter, BSPS and NPS Qualifiers, ridden and turnout classes.
