All the horses on my yard have Azoturia?! They have been out of work for 2 months now recovering but their blood still has not come back down to normal levels. They are all being fed on a low energy diet and being fed the supplement of selenium and vitamin E. They are not on rich grass or haylege. One of the horses we have had for 2 years and never tied up but we brought a new horse onto the yard and since then they have been tying up! They are all Appaloosa's with distant related bloodlines, I just don't understand why they are all tying up, please help me... all ideas welcome!!

how many horses are 'all the horses?' I find it very difficult to believe but would like to hear if it is at all possible

Three are having the tests done on them but there are six on the yard, one hasnt been affected yet and hopefully wont be and two arent in work as mare and foal but the other three have the problems

They are having Hi-fi light and a hand full of pony nuts and the supplement of selenium and vitamin E, then they have hay/haylege at night, we had that tested and it wasn't rich in anything the hay/haylege is from our own field to so no other ground source being taken in, its very odd...

Could it be PSSM (Polysaccharide Storage Myopathy)that is often found in quarter horses. Many appies have quarter horse blood in them. I don't know much about it but LazyS on here will be able to tell you a lot more!

Any chance that the new horse brought a low grade virus onto the yard? .. any signs of low white blood counts in the bloods or were they only tested for the muscle enzymes?

This happened at our yard when the horses were turned out too soon after the field had been sprayed. We also had problems with a field contaminated by runoff from a hosuing estate (dishwasher water etc) so have you had the soil tested?
