... are driving me a bit crazy.

I have been through, as many people on here no doubt have, a stage of worry and high alert about horse thefts.

Now however I find that some of them are rumours, some are escalated out of proportion and some are completely unfounded so I am ignoring them all now. It is so hard to know what the truth is.

Please please if you are not 100% sure if the source of your story do not post it

It would be awful if the thefts were real but nobody heeded them. Just don't want a 'crying wolf' situation....

They may be annoying but I think it does show what a close knit community the equestrian one can be.

To add to these reports - heard from several sources - and will check with police fan that a van has been seen going around Lambley (Notts) with false plates.

Well Arwen,

I don't know what to do now I've just spoken to my daughters Future MIL after she sent me a text about a Silver Transit scared off in a livery yard in Lambley. BUT not before they got the reg no (p.m. me if anyone interested. IT IS NOT THE SAME NO AS BEFORE) The Police have confirmed apparently that the no. plates are false. I've asked her to ring her friend on Lowdham lane to find out which Police station it was reported to and I will phone or drive there to confirm. Then at 1p.m. this morning Daughters FMI was woken by their Alsation going barmy (this dog never barks at anything). This same lady saw this silver transit on Lowdham Lane earlier in the morning the driver was wearing one of those workmen's florenscents and pretending to do something she said but he wasn't really doing anything but thinks now he may have been casing the livery yard. Last week they kept seeing a Blue Astra no reg I'm afraid keep parking outside their place. Then week after two lad they caught on their premises who said Oh! sorry must have the wrong place walked out of their gates and stood a few minutes on a mobile and then this blue Astra pulls up and they get in??? They getting phone calls with no. with held and when they answer the phone is slammed down. Could they be checking to see if anyone in? So If I find which Police station I will drive their and ask. Then I will p.m. you. I was going to put in New Lounge as I have posted a thread re The Litchfield area. Even so I'd rather read and be wary than very sorry!

If the posts encourage people to be more security aware for their horses then they are no bad thing IMO if it means that one person locks their gate and their horse is not stolen then it is worth the hype.

I think we should all be alert to strange people and vehicles round our yards. I know of at least 2 horses that were stolen near me last year. I would rather challenge someone I didn't know at our yard than suffer the heartbreak having a horse stolen causes.

Sorry Arwen I'm with Flowerlady on this one. I would rather read the alerts and be aware than not.

I too thought it all a bit of a possible hoax until people I know and trust in my area within 1 mile contacted me with sightings made by themselves, not a text!

Having spoken to Horsewatch also in the local area, it is NOT a hoax. For those on livery yards with owners on site perhaps its not such a worry, but personally I rent land and a yard and whilst I have neighbours overlooking all paddocks, it would be that hard until today to break in and steal my small ones.

I have purchased some extra padlocks and very minimal things which whilst wont stop a horse being stolen, causes more time to be taken on breaking in, not always a bad thing, it buys you time.

I would rather have the hype than people moan about important info being repeated. Its all very well getting fed up with it all but when its your own doorstep you may feel differently.

I am off the beaten track also and so is place that was cased out yesterday! so its not just the obvious yards at risk here.

My point is not that the warnings shouldn't be read - I agree that we should take notice AND I definitely agree that we should be vigilant at all times - my point is that they become wallpaper and no-one really knows whether to be worried or not.

There ought to be an 'official' route that we can all check? I tried to find out more about horsewatch but kept getting dead ends & having read some of the posts on here they are scaremongering and a lot are just rumour (I am not singling anyone out here).

Yes we all need to be aware BUT there are only so many 'stolen horse - oh no wait, not really' posts that I can get through.

But, that is just my view. I am not meaning to cause offence but I don't know what to believe -I will stop reading them.

I just hope everyone's horses ARE safe & secured in their fields/stables. It would be a nightmare for any of us...

Hi All,
new and just going through all the posts.

I had a pony stolen from our farm a as little girl and sadly involved in a fatal traffic accident whilst they tried to load him.
It's heartbreaking to lose a horse, and so being aware is a great thing.

For me, perhaps there should be a central point everyone can send their info and work towards (sorry if there is these days and I'm unaware).

I'm also very wary where and how I keep horses even over 20years on. We're at livery at the moment, and I always ensure it is a secure one, with someone living onsite.
At some point in the next few years we'll have our own place, and I'll be working from home more (hopefully).

I wouldn't want to go through the heart ache again.
