I know it has been spoken about a lot but really I think it's beyond a joke now! After browsing around earlier I found this blog
http://www.diet2ride.com/
How can this lady expect her horse to carry her! How can this lady expect to lose weight with the amount she is eating. And please do not get me started on the American forums.

Fuming.

Quite frankly, I commend this woman for sharing her struggle to get to her ultimate aim, which is to ride her horse without worrying if she is hurting him.

To put herself in the spotlight is also commendable, knowing she will be judged everyday by people like you.

Cut her a bit of slack, she's aware, and is doing her best to do something about it.

Can not really be arsed to look at all everything - but in my opinion - her horse is well loved and looked after. She is not asking him to gallop everywhere and jump fences. She probably doesn't ride for more than 7 hours a week.

If you really want to get yourself riled up about badly treated horses, then I am sure you could do better

She doesn't expect her horse to carry her over a SJ course.. hence why she's losing weight?

This person might not be skinny but they certainly seem like a nice person. Shame the same can't be said for you :(:o

No, DS I'm afraid that's not true - she has gained weight since starting to ride Onasis, almost 3 stone, he is a beautiful horse - 15.3 heavy cob and she is 23 stone. I have read every blog on the site, she does the calculations, believes in the method, notes that she is too heavy for him and then rides anyway.

He is clearly loved and well cared for, yes. Do I think she should be riding him - no. She clearly struggles very much with binge eating and I really feel for her, it's an awful place to be. She is blessed with that beautiful horse, he really is a credit to her.

BB, I don't think there is any need to goad, particularly as you wrote that you didn't like how the other thread had got personal, now you seem to want the attention? If not why poke so hard?

Who is goading?

All I meant to do was acknowledge I had seen the thread, but really what do you want me to do?

Certainly not going to join in the fat bashing, that would be hypocritical.

Certainly not going to stand here and say yes everything is fine, because I don't know, and I try not to make decisions based on the few pics I have seen.

SO yes I waved to say I have seen it, and yes, you guys carry on, what is it you want me to do?

Fat bashing? Really? You think? Why would it be important for us to know you have read the thread? Do you wave on each thread that you enter and read? No, so you were goading.

I wouldn't expect you to disagree what she is doing because you are doing the same. Since realising that I am 20% of Olive's weight I have ridden a handful of times over the last 6 months, I can feel the difference in her way of going as I have got heavier and so it MUST be effecting her and that is 20% including tack! 20% is deemed the maximum by the majority - no stats needed, it just is :)

Before this all gets too exciting you might want a quick look at the OPs previous posts.

Gotta love the manners one in the light of this though:D

Actually I've seen this link before on another thread, & I am sure she is a member on here. Whilst I don't agree with her riding, I also don't think its necessary to comment on her eating habits with info from another site, unless she posts something on here which makes that relevant. Whilst I am happy to say I think she's too heavy, its not our place to comment on the why's & wherefore's of that weight.

Oh yes I remember now.... Why are horsey women bitchy....

PMSL oh good grief I have seen it all now.... :D

And why not? I have no prior engagements this evening (apart from take me out in 10mins) so bring it on, this could be fun :D

Tbf LittleLegs the lady in question has linked her blog on her posts several times when taking part on Hho.....

I don't know why I am bothered. I can't help it, I guess part of it that I would like to ignore my mare's reluctance as I ride so that I can continue doing so but I haven't got the balls...

As a fellow fattie of similar size to the lady who has written the blog, I can assure you that regardless of whether you actually ride or not it is INCREDIBLY hard being a fat person in the horse world. Regardless of what, you just know that you are going to be treated badly and have to put up with thread after thread on all the equestrian forums having a go about overweight owners, basically saying that we should not be allowed, we are bad owners, are cruel, should never be allowed near a horse and all kinds of other abuse and rudeness. Of course, the most important thing of all is the welfare of the horses and I don't think that any of us would dispute that BUT why is it that the slim owners think it is perfectly acceptable to be rude, abusive and generally nasty and unpleasant to those of us who are larger??? Would you behave like that towards a disabled owner or rider??? No of course not - or I jolly well hope not anyway!! Would you behave like that towards an owner or rider of a different colour, race or religion??? No of course not - or I jolly well hope not anyway!! So why is it seemingly perfectly acceptable to behave like that towards a larger owner??? OK, I totally understand that there are some of us who definately should not be riding and guess what, I am one of those people which is why I don't ride as much as it upsets me! I know it, I accept it and I have to put up with it as much as it hurts. There are larger people out there who are riding but should not be riding because of their weight and I do not agree with that one little bit. BUT please just remember that the overweight owners amongst us do have feelings too and do not deserve some of the downright unpleasant comments that are made. For sure, discuss the welfare issues and the riding aspect but please just remember that even fat people have feelings too!!!

Discuss as much as you like but just please dont be rude or unkind. I am sure that I will be shot down in flames for posting this but thats the price you pay for being over a size 16 and owning a horse..

Thanks one and all x

Well, I admire her for admitting to the world she is trying. I can't comment on her riding her horse because I'm not wanting to be too judgemental, I'll leave that to others..

I just wish her all the best and hope she reaches her goal... :)

I haven't read it but just wanted to say there is a point when you do get too heavy to ride and it can kill your horse. A woman I knew was very heavy and knew it and was riding her horse when it had a heart attack. The horse died. She admitted her weight was probably the cause.

It's just a case of looking after your horse think about the strain your putting on it.

Thorthepony, I can't see where anyone at all has been abusive on this or the other recent lengthy thread about weightloss. That simply hasn't happened.

I know billy, but I think if she posts on here herself about it, its different. But getting details of her eating habits & discussing them on a thread without her linking them feels underhand if that makes sense?
And Thor, I've never really experienced a hatred of overweight horse people, unless they ride too small horses, & of course that applies to anybody either fat or thin. And tbh, people are just as keen to make disparaging comments about thin people as they are about fat.

Amazing, you can totally read me and know me NOT

Jeez, Can't win well **** the lot of you, enjoy, live as you want to, jusdge me fom afar becaise I have freakeng had enough of you and your holier than I gfucng attutude,

And there you have the truth I am a 55 year old fould outhed overweight bitch, and I'm sure you;ll all feel a lot beetr without me

I don't believe that account of yourself that you have given BigBen. You're a smart, intelligent, quick witted and kind hearted 55 year old woman. You just happen to ride your horse at over 20 percent of his weight and I just happen to disagree with that. No need to leave, nothing has been said that isn't based in reason surely?

Ignore it, the original poster has only done 4 posts and is probably a **** stirrer ... Plus I bet most of them are heavier than they say

er...it's a long time since I was at school so please forgive my awful maths skills but could you please remind me how I work out what 20% of my horse's weight is??! He's a 13.3hh chunky cob so in fact I don't know his exact weight although he's a little on the podgy side! I usually put him at around 350kg.... I'm 10stone.

Height-wise I'm just short enough for him (5'6'') but I'd love to know weight-wise.

Thankyou.
