Just a bit of advice please.

Looking for a new bit for my horse (grew out of his loose ring snaffle) currently in a full sheet french link but its in a 6'' which is a tad too big I think, 5''1/2 is a too small so ideally I'm after a 5'' 3/4, anyway having discovered there are not many bits/makes that are available in 3/4 sizes....just a little observation there but feel he needs something that perhaps fits the shape of his mouth better which got me thinking of trying a different bit rather than buying a full cheek in the correct size (if I can get hold of one!).

He's not got a long mouth and perhaps he's a little fleshy also around the corners of his lips, WB's and ID types are knows for having thickish tongues etc so I'm after something light, non bulky, curved corners (for comfort) something that will lay nicely in his mouth (preferably not a nut cracker action) hence lozenged or French link, something mild and to help encourage a contact, something that tastes nice etc (he's 4 and doing basic schooling and a bit of hacking, not strong and does eventually come onto a contact but perhaps slightly below sometimes ).

Was thinking on the lines of the following and woudl like to purchase perhaps one of these:-

Neue Schule Training Lozenged Eggbutt

Sprenger Dynamic RS Stainless Steel Rings/Aurigan mouth (comfort type bit)

Myler Comfort Snaffle (stage 1) with hooks (not totally sure if they just do 5'' then 5 1/2 then jump to 6'' though) or without hooks...?

Now my question is, are all of the above pretty much similar, good for schooling, perhaps suit his type of mouth, the stage he's at.. pretty mild etc?

I'm trying to get hold of a second hand Myler in the correct size, comfort stage 1, only thing its a D ring with hooks....would this be ok or at least worth buying to try out?

Or do you have any suggestions on any bits/makes that you have come across that you'd recomend? I will have this bit lady down to double check once I think I have bought and tried the hopefully find the right one but thought it was worth asking any pro's out there that may have some usual info also.

Many Thanks for getting this far

Personally I don't like Myler's cos the copper is slightly proud and set into the bit where it is in contact with lips, IMO likely to cut. I use Neue Schules and have just moved up from their team-up (used for 4 years) to a trans lozenge LR snaffle, although aim to get the eggbutt as soon as its available in 5" 16mm. I also have teh NS universal to help me with control out hacking..its only really required when other people's horses f**k off, but I put my safety first and won't allow her to behave so badly, not with a young niece and nephew wanting pony rides. PS. I'm no expert but have tried various with my girl and she defo likes teh NS above all others.

Ok thank you both for your comments.

Well someone has kindly offered to let me try all three, but I will try the Neue Schule first seen as I think this will be similar to what he's been schooling with (light weight loose ring snaffle) but will have the advantage of the lozenge and hopefully proove more confortable (not that I had a specific problems before) but if there is a way of making something more confortable with any item of tack etc then I'll explore the avenue.

Thank you, much appreciated.

Have had great success with neue schule with several horses.
The company that supply them are very helpul, even made a bit for my daughters pony which works brilliantly.
