Thinking of switching from shavings to Allbed but is it really more absorbent than shavings? I use 2 bales of shavings per week at £6 per bale, pee is removed everyday. Allbed is £5 per bale and the bale is near half the size of a bale of shavings. I bought one bale to try it out and just put it in the pee corner. Again pee was removed everyday and I found that yes I removed less bedding each day but not a significant difference!! Does it work better if you deep litter the Allbed?

Personally I hate the stuff!! I don't find it absorbent at all (it's hard and chunky) and it goes a really funny red colour when it's wet and stinks like you wouldn't believe.

A friend got a couple of pallets and split it with me, and I ended up giving most of it back to her and using some of it on the walker because I couldn't stand it as bedding. Having said that, she is still using it and seems to like it ok.

I use wood pellets now which don't look particularly pleasing to the eye but they are far cheaper, easier to muck out, the horses don't get mucky and there is practically no smell at all.

I find it works better as a semi deep or deep litter, it is well draining rather than absorbent. When I've used it I've built a deep bed and it worked quite well. I can imagine that you'd go through it taking it out every day.
