Hi, have recently switched my feed to soothe and gain by Allen and page, so far it's been really good. However I do have one question, how many scoops (soaked!) Would be the max you would feed? He is on 4 kg a day at the moment which will be two bucket fulls when soaked. I'm just concerned that 4 scoops (soaked) is too much in one sitting!
This amount is split into 3 feeds a day
Any experience and estimates welcome!!

I have emailed allen and page but have not yet had a reply!

Thank you I'm advance!!

Their website says you can feed up to 5kg. I have found their feeds to be quite a lot of volume if feeding the recommended amounts, even with the low calorie ones, which is why they make food hay replacers.

If you look at the feeding recommendations on the website you can see that for a 4kg feed the horse would need to be over 600KG and in hard work. I'm presuming OP that your horse is either smaller or not in hard work? In which case you probably do need to reduce it. A stubbs scoop holds 1.6ks according to the website so if you are feeding 4 scoops (rather than 4 kgs dry weight) you are actually feeding 6.4kgs - way more than the max recommended amount (which is 5kg) for a 700kg horse in hard work.

How much does your horse weigh and what is the workload?

Hello, I know it's 3.4 scoops to make 4kg, I have weighed it all out on scales. He is a 17hh TB who weighs between 575-600kg, he is a horrendous doer and is currently ridden 6/7 days a week and competes every other weekend. His condition and energy levels are perfect on his feed and 4kg is the amount recommended by an Allen and page nutritionist.
Thank you though

So whats your query? Is it how much to feed in one go? If so, fibre feeds can be fed in huge amounts, but other more strach feed needs to be kept to smaller amounts. The horses stomach is the size of a rugby ball, so I would want to feed less than that in each feed.

How many scoops of soaked feed would be the max, I have been told not to feed more than two kg dry weight.at a time but in concerned that it is too much when soaked, it's recommended that I replace the cubes I'm on with this feed, which indicates to me it's more of a concentrate rather than fibre! As I said I have emailed them and obviously won't get a response till Monday!

I feed soothe and gain. My horse has a limit of food volume. If I give her too much it is left and it is too expensive to waste. Every feed I have used, conditioning or otherwise, has the same result. Soothe and gain has been the best so far but I am not able to feed her the required amount. I would like her to have a little more condition but she chooses what she eats.
