Does anyone feed A&P L mix? My 15.1hh 12yr very good doer mare is out 24 /7 on fairly weedy and mossy grazing about 3 acres between 2. Over the winter she has put on weight and I think it's because I added top spec comp balancer albeit half rations as suggested with a mug of fast fibre. I like top spec because with other horses I have had it has worked really - however it obviously works just too well on this mare!
Because of poor grazing which provides plenty of fibre at the moment but probably not much else i suspect, they both will need a broad spectrum vit min supplement (my little welsh chap is 19 yrs). As the TS is way too much iwas looking at A&P L mix as both horses would be ideal suspects for lami so it would support this and get their vits and mins into them. They get a slice or two of hay in theIr field shelter as a token but it seems pointless to waste money on expensive hay when they are grazing 24/7 so their fibre intake is good. I like to give small bucket feed every day as it means they come in to get checked over so it makes sense both practically and finically to ensure their vit and min needs are in the hard feed.
They both need to be out 24/7 but I will restrict grazing by elec fencing come spring (at
which point I will feed soaked hay to provide the fibre) and again I thought l mix might support this restricted grazing and support the hooves etc in case of lami.
So has any one used l mix and can you tell me what the actual make up is and how much you need to feed? (info I have found online doesn't give too much detail and I wil ring their advice line tomorrow but just a bit wary of those on how impartial they are!!!) or should I just stick with fast fibre and no added vits/mins?
So from the lit L mix looks a good option
