Anyone used it?
What are your thoughts.
I've got a 4 rising 5yo who still has loads of growing to do & can look a bit ribby. He eats for England & has ad lib hay, H&P Cubes, chaff plus blue chip at the mo. I want to replace the cubes with something else but although he's a real poppet at the moment he can be bright to jump

& I don't want to hot him up, only put a bit more condition on him & help him grow & muscle up.
Any suggestions welcome (plus bring on the spring grass!!)
 
I use it for mine too and have been very pleased with the results. Do use lots of water with it though, as we've had and known of a few choke on it if it's not really, really wet.
 
I've just stopped feeding it, my mare wasn't gaining weight and was starting to refuse to eat it. She wasn't hot on it, but I have noticed a slight calming since I've put her on D+H build up cubes, she's quite a lot more level headed in the aren a now, lazy even. But still has the spooks out hacking

She still hasn't gained weight on the new feed yet, we've been through 1 bag so far, so we shall see. I think with feeds you just have to try what looks best, it may work or not, it depends on the individual horse and workload etc...
 
Bailey my vetran has it (he is nuts) I've used it for a few years after experimenting with all sorts to get the weight on without 'enhancing his temperament' ahem, I can feed him up to a full scoop a day and it doesn't heat him up, I now combine with top spec.
 
I have the exact match to your boy lol!
And last nite he was put on it lol!
I found it fantastic with my other horse who was very hot!!

I feed this too, I think Allen & Page are one of the best manufacturers around (they are always helpful and have feeds that really suit my neds), even the fizzy pony doesn't seem to heat up on it
 
I use this too and my mare looks really well on it despite being unclipped and only recently back off rest. I wanted to feed something with no molasses and less starch as she is very crabby when fed these! She reallys tucks into C+C but I may need to change to their Ride and Relax mix when the spring grass arrives!
 
I started using it when I got my new horse about 18 months ago. I had not used it before but have been very impressed. He looks fab and has put on loads of condition. However, he is not that keen on eating it (as it has to be fed wet) so I mix a bit of mix and carrots in with it and the chaff so that its a bit tastier!
 
i used it on my 4yo but didnt really notice any difference in her at all. She also started to refuse to eat it as it was a sloppy mess. Ive out mine on D&H build up cubes. They havent sent her hot at all and have put the weight on i wanted

Interested to hear about having to wet it. I thought it was cubes & was planning to add his usual chaff to it, and dampen it down before feeding. Does this sound ok?
 
My lad, Hann x Tb, must be the exception to the rule, Calm & Condition actually heated him up. We think it may be the barley in it. I changed him to Ride & Relax & he calmed down considerably. He goes well with it & is in geat condition.

It's like mini-pellets (looks like poultry feed, to my mind!) and the reason for adding water is on the back of the sack although I think it was just to prevent choke/bolting of feed as opposed to it swelling inside the stomach.

The starch level is given on the website as 15-20%, which is not what I would class as low. Compared to barley on its own or some conditioning feeds it is lower, but not 'low'.

We have had them heat up on it too. D and H Build Up Cubes are better I have found.
 
Hi why do you use this feed is it good for a stressy horse my boy on D & H pasture mix scoop of topspec and chaff my friend suggested next year for hunting giving him this feed as he now has liver damage someone said this can be caused through stress we are in the saddle for a long day and he's only 7 but he dosn't appear to be a worrier. thanks.
 
didn't work on my mare made her bounce off the walls

only thing i can put enough in to keep the weight on is falcon feeds fibrecare

[/ QUOTE ] C&C doesn't contain barley, and is actually promoted as being 'barley free'. This often leads people to believe it is cereal free, but it does actually contain maize, which might explain why some horses heat up on it!
