I have a horse that is known to be allergic to this antibiotic. He had a serious reaction. sweating, trying to lie down and came up in hives within seconds of being given this introvenously. This was before I owned him. so,,,,,,,,,, my question is, what can he have and not have for future reference. Is itjust the intro antibiotics or can it be caused by the powders too???? Also in vet

This may be better in Veterinary.:) I have limited knowledge of anti-bs but do know tetracyclines are a group of broad-spectrum antibiotics. This means they are effective against a variety of bacterium. Depending on the type of infection your horse has, I'm sure your vet can find a suitable antibiotic that is not part of the tetracycline group.:)

Tetracycline is a broad spectrum antbiotic. If your horse is allergic to it intravenously it is a virtual certainty that he will also be allergic to it in powder form. He will probably be allergic to any of the Tetracycline group (there are 10 or so of them.)

Whilst you do need to know he has this allergy as it is potentially life threatening, your vet will be able to prescribe a different antibiotic if he needs one. There are a broad range - including good old fashioned penicillin.

You would be best off avoiding all of the tetracycline family in any form. It sounds like yours was a case of true anaphylaxis, however it is not uncommon for horses to have a serious adverse effect from (too) rapid IV infusion of the drug.
