Completely strange one... never had this one before.. one of my youngsters arrived with spots like itchy fly bites.. they come up as small round lumps usually with a small scab in the middle.... ok now for the wierd bit..

They are much more prolific on one side of him than the other they go from his shoulder all over his saddle area... they are itchy and come up worse when he has been out... with fly rug or without...

He is on completely different feed from his previous owner so not feed related... they come up with or without fly rug so not flies... he gets so irritated that he almost looks cold backed when the saddle goes on from them under his saddle and girth...

He got so over sensitive he is awful with the farrier... if he has an attack when he needs shoeing he will lash out at the farrier as in so bad he need sedating from the vet!!!

Has anyone any info or advice?

Although you are using different feeds, are there identical ingredients in any of the feeds?

Could well be when he lies down in the field but deffo not bots...there are aroung a hundred spots when they come up... No the feeds are completely different before he was on a total forage only diet and here he is on a showing diet with cereal and he had the spots in both yards....

When you girth him up he actually kicks his front foot up to his girth like he would a fly..

Have a very similar problem with my pony!! He always gets these lumps and scabs that i assumed were bites... my friend (who works on a racing yard) had a look at him and she said they were like an allergy to his own sweat!!! (apparently the race horses get them too) So now have to be very careful about rugging and leave rugs off as much as possible... or he gets covered in them again...

Not sure if yours is the same thing though... ?
