Does anybody out there have severe allergies to horses / hay / dust / pollen etc and yet still cope with a horse? I am on daily antihistamines, nasal spray, eye drops, and two asthma inhalers, and still I am suffering terribly at the moment to the extent I am exhausted all the time with lack of sleep and sneezing fits etc.

I have suffered quite badly with allergies over the last few years, but has all improved and become a lot more managable since I stopped letting the cat into the bedroom! Took me by surprise because I thought it was grass/dust mites/tree pollen that were the culprits (well, I am still allergic to those too, but the whole is a lot easier to manage when not exposed 24hrs solid)!

You poor thing.

I too am allergic to horses/dust/cats/guinea pigs and feathers.

I had a course of injections with dust when I was about 11 (which was... ahemm, some years ago now) But they don't offer this anymore as it killed a few people. I have to say that it was really sucessful, and probably the turning point in managing most of my allergies.

After this, the horse allergy seemed to be cured by exposure to horses (took a few years, but I'm stubborn!) and the only things that really bother me now are feathers and guinea pigs, both of which result in puffy eyes and reaching for the ventolin!!!

If I had trouble again (or became interested in guinea pigs or feathers!!!), I would try homeopathic treatment, where you can be treated like with like in a similar way to the injections I had, but no where near as aggressive or dangerous. There are also Allergy Clinics around, not sure what treatment they offer, but might be worth a try.

Good luck
