Horse is 19this year and have owned her for 3yrs but known her well for 8. Today I took her rug off to groome and on right shoulder were about 15 small lumps in the hair, each was raised and looked like a bite, and had little yellow head that easily came off. Just. Like when I get a mozzie bite! They don't seem to bother her, so I got each scab off and applied tee tree shampoo, rinsed off and applied tee tree spray with antiseptic. Gave her some piraton liquid in food, shee seems fine, don't seem to be irritating her, yard owner keeping eye on her as we fly to USA in the morning!!!
I think some biting fly or insect got under her rug and bit and bit till found its way out.
What do others think, it's very weird, she has had odd fly bite prevously but never in the dozens. Could it be this warm weather has made insects come out to feast early?
