I have a horse that is known to be allergic to this antibiotic. He had a serious reaction. sweating, trying to lie down and came up in hives within seconds of being given this introvenously. This was before I owned him. so,,,,,,,,,, my question is, what can he have and not have for future reference. Is itjust the intro antibiotics or can it be caused by the powders too????

Tetracyclines are not terribly widely used in horses, and although they can be very very useful, there are certainly many alternatives with as wide a spectrum, so this should not prevent your horse from being treated for bacterial infections in the future

It is certainly worth letting any vet that treats him in the future know about this event, as it may influence his or her drug choice.
