About a day after riding my horse I notice hair loss where his bridle sits. His bridle is not rubbing and is fitted correctly. His skin where the hair loss is stays soft but the area underneath feels hard. The area is also itchy.

This has been getting worse for the last year. It started just on the cheek strap area but is now under the head piece and around the noseband area. I thought it could be the saddle soap so I bought a brand new bridle. It is still happening. Please can you tell me if you have had the same problem or know what it is. Is there any treatment for it?

Can you take a pic or two and post on the Forum E? It might be that the area needs a couple of weeks with NOTHING pressing or resting against the damaged skin area. The new bridle probably fits more or less where the skin was damaged from the first one, so this will need to heal properly first. This might be very frustrating for you since no bridle = no riding but if that's what it takes you don't have any other options. It's also a good idea to let the damage heal totally because a fairly common area for sarcoids to develop is the area under the bridle where the skin may have been constantly irritated.
