high in protein so doesnt suit all horses-why are you wanting to feed it?

My friends tb drops alot of weight in winter dispight (sp?) the fact she is on two daily feeds, and got suggested she put her on this, only doesnt know alot about it and thought it was for elderly horses.

Alfa A is a dried alfafa chaff with added molasses. Alfafa is a very useful feed being high in protein and a good source of calcium, and it is a fibre feed rather than a cereal one. You can use it for horses of any age - I had my youngster on it at one point, but my veteran has also been fed it.

You can find more information on the Dengie website:

I started feeding George hi-fi but he wasn't quite holding his weight so he now has alfa-a and he is doing really well on it and loves it. He is a leisure horse so I'd much rather he had a fibre diet, I do add a balancer to it though as it doesn't have ant added vits and mins.

Alfalfa is a conditioning feed but also high in protein and calcium. Willsy's fed about 2 level scoops a day on the vets advice in preference to expensive hoof supplements. He's 15 and had it for several years, doesn't send him loopy, think that's a myth

Different horses react differently to various feeds - I suspect there is not one feed going that some horse or other has reacted to!

I've had all of mine on Alfa A at some point, and none have fizzed up on it, got diarrhoea or had any other undesirable reaction!

Murph is fed on Alpha A. He can't have anything that fizzes him up cos he becomes a lunatic. He competes and has hunted on Alpha A. Doesn't put too much weight on him, and he is a chunky Irish type who gets fat quite easily.
