hi everyone, i'm hoping to take tipsy out for some xc in a few weeks and was looking for suggestions. I went to a hunter trail at alps park a year or two ago but i only did the 2ft and it was chucking it down so I only saw a tiny part of the course. are there plenty of bigger jumps as well as the small ones? are the take offs/landings good? also open to any other XC suggestions in south Wales/ possibly Bristol x

Alps has quite a few fences up to about 3' and then a handful up to about 3'6 max. It's well looked after and the ground is always good, especially the top field as it's hilly and drains well. It's good if you don't want to go too far and don't want to jump that big but Leyland Court and Hilltop have a far bigger selection if you don't mind a bit of a trek to get there.

I have photos of all the courses at an Alps Park hunter trial last year on here: www.facebook.com/unaffiliatedxccoursephotos

On the Photos page, scroll down to Glamorgan - Alps Park :)

I also run a Calendar of XC dates, and whilst adding dates recently noticed that both Gower Riding Club and Swansea Pony Club run a lot of XC events although I have no idea about the standard of the courses?

Yes the bridge is just the car price if you have a trailer. Hilltop wouldn't involve the bridge as you go up the A449 and M50.

I like the look of hilltop and leyland court but the price of the bridge is putting me off, how much is the bridge with a trailer actually? El, whitebarn has closed apparently :(

If you ring I'm pretty sure you can still use White Barn for training but its a bit run down & they dont hold events anymore. The liveries still use it. Golden Valley we use for our camps & training days its lovely & good roads to get up there :)

....but if you have a pick up style 4x4 you'll get charged for a van. A friend got caught out by that and didn't have enough money - luckily without the trailer as she got turned back

Interesting to know as a good few of my friends are towing with pickups at the mo. Will let them know!
