I cannot remember, can I feed breakfast as kibble and supper as raw or does it have to be alternate days? Skinny dogs are looking a bit skinnier than even I like them :(

I hope that it works, and that you're soon happy with your lovely dogs weight again. But if it doesn't work at once, remember that they haven't read the rule book about how and when to feed what, sometimes it takes a little trial and errors to figure out what works.

By the way, do you have any other Christmas plans for them, besides making them gain weight? (Photos found through Google image search)

Mine are all fed raw, but I couldn't get weight on one of mine no matter how much I fed / what I fed. He also has a love of kibble so is getting fishmongers for breakfast - and is looking really well on it. His brother hates kibble but loves raw and is looking equally well on double portions of raw!

LOL FL what brilliant pictures :) :) We might be doing some collecting for GRWE before Christmas so I will make sure I post pictures of suitably attired hounds if we do :D

It is odd, normally I am very happy with them all on raw but I looked at them all over the weekend and thought they are all looking a bit light which is unusual. Perhaps it is the slightly colder weather we have been having, as nothing else has changed. I would love to feed them double quantities of raw, but my food bill for them is £160 per month as it is so I have to be pragmatic and try them on some kibble as well :)

Hmmm was trying to post a pic but can't make it show the pic only the link - never mind! Anyhow, they are too thin even for greyhounds :(

I've got whippet sized lurchers and they are raw fed. They weigh 16kgs give or a take and can eat up to a kilogram a day, and average 700gms a day. If I fed them 2 to 3% of their bodyweight they'd be dead!As it is, they are slim, with back bones feelable but not quite visible. I think with sighthounds the rule book goes out of the window a bit. Mine can lose or gain weight literally over night!

If your finding it expensive make friends with your local butchers, I've just moved so havent had chance to do it yet, but previously I would have been able to feed mine pretty much for free, from freebies :)

Ha ha I have tried that with all the local butchers FrankieCob, no chance around here as they are all very wise to the fact that there is money to be made from raw-feeding dog owners! They won't give away a thing, believe me I've asked.

My lot have been on raw for a couple of years now so I am used to adjusting their food - they range from 20kg to 35kg in weight, and get 2.5-3% of their bodyweight a day, I feed by eye rather than by exact weight though.

ETA - I've read your post again - mine are kept slimmer than yours, I like to see 3 vertebrae and the outline of ribs, now I have the start of pin bones showing which is not good. My old girl always looks like a hat rack and shows all her ribs mind you, nothing I feed her will ever stop that!

Sun Valley, I've told you!!

Maybe up their percentage as opposed to using kibble? It might work out cheaper, dunno. I think kibble one meal, raw another is fine.

There is a chicken processing factory in Newent - Cargill Meats who bought/own Sun Valley - and they will not sell direct to the pet owner, only to wholesalers. I have asked over and over again :D

Actually that has prompted me to do a little calculation - Skinners Duck & Rice is about £25 per sack around me, so I make that £1.25 per kg (£25 divided by 20kg). I buy from MVM, and their tripe (the cheapest product they do other than chicken carcasses) retails at £0.65 per lb or £1.43 per kg.

Why anyone thinks feeding raw is cheaper any more escapes me.....luckily my dogs love it and look great on it for 99.9% of the time, so I shall continue feeding it :)

I do feed them on the same day but with a large gap and my dog is a total dustbin!! I also feed the kibble one or two bits at a time as opposed to a bowl so it probably moves through the system in a different way.
I'd say it would depend on the constitution of the dog.
