I am aware that I have to gain permission from my vet to get an "alternative" therapist to see my horse (friend's horse is beeing seen by a McTimoney Corley practitioner and I agreed that Maiden could be booked in too) - but do I have to have written permission or can I just phone my vet and ask?? Is it the responsibility of the owner to gain veterinary approval or is it up to the practitioner/therapist?

I have space on my work sheets for clients to sign to say they have their vets permission.

It is up to the client to obtain permission from their vet unless the vet has refered to me in the first place.
I have never been refused permission by any vet, in fact, most of them are interested to know what I find.

Not sure about McTimony, your practitioner will be able to advise. I know with reiki you need both the owner and vet's permissions, and the practitioner has a form that the owner has to sign saying they have consulted the vet.

The Veterinary Act states that only a vet or the owner can administer treatments of any kind to the horse. Otherwise veterinary consent is required. This may be done by phone.

I have a clause at the end of my consultation form which the owner signs to say that they have spoken to their vet & obtained permission.
