One of our ponies is an older ex JA pony and is ridden in a Tom Thumb when he is strong he tends put his head down and tuck it into his chest. He tends to lean on this bit. Is there anything else anyone can suggest noseband or bit as an alternative. That ideally would help raise his head. This is only jumping and not schooling or hacking. He is just keen but we don’t want to be hauling on his mouth. Thanks

We had a lot of success with the NS Elevator for BS ponies - it was quite the fashionable bit when DS was in juniors but we did well with it on several ponies. You need them to have that keeness and punch and scope for the jump offs - but you also need to be able to turn!

Otherwise try calling the Bit Bank or the Horse Bit Shop for advice. You can hire bits for up to 30 days which helps make the porcess, if not slightly less hit and miss, at least less expensive!

It's tricky at the moment but I always recommend Horse Bit Fit. A consultant comes out to you and you can try several bits over the course of a couple of hours and see what works. It really will save you money in the long run and, most importantly, you will have a happy pony.
