Hello,

Heres a question for the feed experts :)

I have a good doer, she is fed a handful of Happy Hoof in summer and half a scoop in winter (twice daily) so I can add her vit and min supplement and Glucosimine supplement.

I recently discovered that HH contains Garlic, I do not want to feed Garlic so was wondering if there is another very similar feed on the market that doesn't contain Garlic?

As she is a good doer, will need a low cal feed.

Not sure if safe and sound has garlic or not. It doesn't smell like it does anyway. I've thrown away my packing to check properly.

I feed D&H Safe and Sound. I didn't realise it DOES have a tiny bit of garlic in it though... I looked on the website ingredients.

I also use Dengie Hi-Fi Mollasses Free (not Alfa-A Molasses Free, they do both and the shop always mixes them up) as a carrier for my very good doer's vits and mins supplement.

Ingredients: Chopped alfalfa, chopped cereal straw, NIS pellets, alfalfa pellets, soya oil, mint and fenugreek.

What about feeding fresh garlic from the supermarket, very cheap and much more beneficial, by the time it has been processed and added to the chop not much of the beneficial properties will be left! and not sure if any chops even have garlic in. one clove every day or every few days can easily be chopped up and mixed in or use a cheap garlic press. The fresh stuff is much more like what they are likely to eat in the wild.

Another vote for Fast Fibre. Excellent for good doers and contains sufficient vits and mins too if enough is fed. I add some Hoofkind to break the texture up a bit. I've been using Fast Fibre for about 4 years now and I am certain it has helped my good doers stabilise their weight.

I am currently trying to get hold of honey chop molasses free oat straw chaff. As my mares legs swelled up on alfalfa and she is a good doer. Proving very difficult to get hold of!!! Will take a.month and min 5 bag order!!

You already have a million suggestions so will add another for you! We feed ours Topspec's TopChop Lite - pretty sure it doesn't have any garlic in it, doesn't smell of it at all and there's nothing mentioned on the bag about it.
You could always send them a quick email to double check, they've always got back to me really quickly when I've contacted them and have been so helpful x

The people who make ordinary Mollichaff also make a chaff type mix called Hoof Kind. Not expenseive, no garlic that I know of and no molasses. Google it and you will get the gen on it. I have used it and would recommend it highly.

I feed Winergy Equilibrium Low Energy, definitely no Garlic (just read the ingredients on the packaging).
It's expensive if you feed it in the amounts they suggest, but like you, I only feed a small amount to add supplements to.

Fast Fibre actually does contain garlic which is the ingredient that LaurenBay is trying to avoid!

Was about to say this.

Sometimes if you are trying to avoid things the best thing is to go back to straights.
As someone said a straight straw chaff ( a few people do one) or unmolassed sugarbeet. A bit higher in calories but once soaked a little goes a long way and easy to get hold of.

I use Dengie Healthy hooves on my 2 good doers also, have fed for years and really rate it. But I am sure on my most recent bag it said now with either mint or garlic? Will look in a bit.
