My pony's mud fever has now cleared up since moving and using Protocon cream daily so he has started going back out every other day. At the moment I am covering his heels and pasterns with Protocon and it seems to be keeping it at bay, but im getting through rather a lot.

I don't want to swap to just plain vaseline / pig oil / sulphur as this didn't seem to help last time he was out, but is there anything similar that might work ? If it works I'm happy to stick to prootcon but I'm getting through a small tub every 2 weeks so wondered if they may be something else you could recommend ? Maybe the vaseline just needed to be applied more thickly ?

I've been using Sudocrem and that seems to have done the trick :-) Also before application of cream I spray the affected areas with Hypocare spray.

Conotrane cream is great I swear by it :)
Get it from a pharmacy about £5-6 for 500g tub & just smear it on
Used it for years & I only ever hav 2 deal with few wee scabs & that usually cos I've not started using the conotrane early enough!
