As title please :D I changed my mare onto Simple systems about 2-3months ago in an effort for a low sugar and starch diet. She gets alfalfa, grass pellets and the total eclipse. I want to cut the grass pellets out as she doesn't need them but she won't eat the TE without it!! She looks really well on it. Has anyone changed to an alternative product with good results?

used to feed simple systems but my two went off it.
I found the total eclispe worked out quite expensive, if i remember rightly its linseed seaweed and brewers yeast, wasnt realy a ballancer, i didnt feel there was enough in it for my lads so i changed back to topspec and happy hoof, they love it and look really good on it and also it works out cheaper.
have you tried adding some beet,to encourage him to eat it ?

I feed naf seaweed and gold label brewers yeast. only my youngster gets linseed as the other 2 are good doers but I buy flaked linseed from hyperdrug.

Don't really want to be adding anything extra to her feed as she is a good doer. Ticobay831 - Do you have the vits/mins specs for the Topspec?

I am about to move mine onto simple systems but nothing could make me take him off his senior balancer, there is no energy in it just all vits and minerials plus stuff for joints etc. He is currently on boxrest and only gets a handful of happy hoof and senior balancer, despite having not been worked for 4 months has held his condition really well and i am sure it is because of the balancer.

Total eclipse is made from;

Micronised linseed (this is why she looks well on it. It is a coat conditioner, a joint supplement, gut muculage, hoof moisture balancer). You can buy micronised linseed cheaper from Charnwood Milling

Brewer's Yeast - you can buy cheaper from Charnwood Milling too. I stopped feeding it last year in favour of Yea-sacc - but then I was feeding it to keep happy gut health.

Seaweed - only really needed if you know your forage is low in iodine.

Total Eclipse is an expensive way to feed cheap ingredients.

I went through all of the low sugar/starch feeds in an effort to calm my nutty horse down. I have FINALLY found one that works!!
Allen & Page - Fast Fibre - it is very low sugar, no molasses, is barley free, low starch, and is fairly cheap - about £8 / 20kg bag. They recommended I give him 2KG per day, which makes a bag last 10 days. If you ring them they have an info sheet that lists all the ingredients and also the nutritional analysis.
It is good stuff, my horse is a lot more manageable now - ridden and handling. I changed to it about 3 weeks ago.
Previously he was on A&P Cool & Collected - but it was still too much for him.
