Hello I am new here and am posting in the hope that some of you knowledgeable people might be able to help. I have a six year old ID x warmblood who is very strong but also very sensitive and often a bit hyper. He has always been fussy in the mouth but there are no dental or confirmation problems (he has regular checks). To cut a long story short I needed to put something on him to give me some brakes jumping. Instructor thought a gag was not the answer (we do not need any poll action) and we tried the waterford snaffle. He really likes it and goes really well in it and I can stop which is an added bonus! The problem is the fact that it is not dressage legal and I want to do some dressage on him. The reason he seems to like it is becasue it follows the contours of his tongue and sort of moulds to him can anybody think of anything else that will do this and which is dressage legal? I have tried a Myler with a port in it but it does not mould in the same way. I have also used a very thin loose ring french link which is not too bad but not as good as the waterford. If anyone has encountered a similar problem or can make some suggestions I would be really grateful. Thanks for reading this.

The Myler with the port wouldn't have been dressage legal anyway, as you can't use a port for dressage.

I'd try the loose ring french link again or try a different manufacturers loose ring french link as this will be the most flexible dressage legal bit IMO.

Hi,
welcome!
My mare sounds v v similar, and the best dressage legal solution we've found is a Neu Schule Verbindend. I'm an old fashioned fuddy-duddy and was most upset to be abandoning my traditional french link, but she likes it so...

my horse is exactly the same and is also idxtb, we in a neue schule training bit and she is ok. still searching for the right one -we have tried the verbindend but dont get on with loose rings, tried myler, goes lovely in pelham, am thinking poss nathe next??

My horse(also IDx) loves his waterford as well but for flat work we have a myler mullen mouth hanging cheek (it doesn't sound like you need the hanging cheek but she might like the mouthpiece) The mouthpiece is curved to shape around the tongue so they still have plenty of room. It's the only dressage legal bit I can get him to go in.

I jump my horse in a full cheek waterford and she goes really sweetly in it. For dressage we use a NS tranz angled lozenge bit which she also likes, because of the angled lozenge in the middle of the bit it seems to sit well.

I'd give NS a call they've got a really helpful bit advice line
