We currently use Advocate as a wormer every month, and a tablet every 3 months for tapeworm (can't remember the name of it). However with advocate you need to keep them dry for 4 days as it's applied to the base of the neck- try telling a spangle to stay dry for 10 minutes let alone 4 days :D

So is there any other wormer we could try that is as good as Advocate?

Any Tablet wormer will work - Try the medical animal website, and look at whats best for your dog. They do free delivery too :)

As for all the other nasties that Advocate covers... No idea!

Hmmm better than advocate might be hard to beat...it depends what are you trying to protect you dog from?
Intestinal worms? ticks?fleas? all of the above?

Do you live in a town with no access to open ground or woods?or have you access to woods/open ground?are you in a lungworm area?
do you want to travel in europe/the west country?

I rotate my wormers Panacur and Drontal I rarely use Advocate for worming unless going to Europe. If pups I use Panacur's oral suspension which you can give to a bitch in whelp to reduce worm burden on new born pups always works a treat.

Trying to protect against everything I guess? No, we have access to woods, we live on a farm in the west country so she is out and about in open fields, woods etc a lot of the time, we have sheep and cows on the farm and there are several badger sets if that makes any difference? I don't know about lungworm risk in the area.

I guess if there is nothing better we will have to stick with advocate and try to keep her dry, but it's fighting a losing battle. I did query it with the vets one day and they said it might not be as effective if she got wet.

If you're wanting lungworm cover then advocate is your only option I'm afraid. If you're just wanting roundworms then drontal or milbemax tablet wormers would do it or if you're wanting a spot-on that does fleas and mites as well as roundworms then stronghold may work for you as it's absorbed into the bloodstream rather than just remaining on the skin so I believe the period you need to keep them dry is only a couple of hours whereas I believe most of the other spot ons that you could use for fleas etc in conjunction with worming tablets are probably around the same as what you're already using. If you were wanting to switch products and wanting tick cover as well then may be worth looking into a seresto collar in addition (as far as I'm aware advocate does cover this already but the stronghold doesn't)

Advocate is the best one that covers most things. You could switch to frontline and drontal but doesn't cover you for lungworm, which is on the increase.

As far as I was aware I thought you only needed to avoid getting your dog wet for a day after application. Maybe do it before bed time so you've got the whole night for it to get through the skin?
